I never seem to get this right…. until this time that is :) It turned out to be Vino worthy, here it is!

Ingredients:

1 cup green moong dal (whole)
1 small onion (red) chopped finely
1 teaspoon ginger grated
1 teaspoon garlic grated
1 small ginger whole
3 chiles (green) sliced horizontally
1.5 large tomatoes (plum) pureed
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
2.5 teaspoon canola oil
to taste salt
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
ghee
small bunch cilantro chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Directions:
Soak dal in sufficient water for half an hour.

Pressure cook dal with salt, half the red chili powder, turmeric and the small piece of ginger till cooked.

In a pan, heat oil and sauté onions and ginger-garlic paste. Add coriander powder, slit green chilies and tomato puree and sauté till the oil separates.

Add the cooked dal and adjust spices, salt and consistency. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and let it splutter. Add remaining red chili powder to this and pour over the dal. Garnish with garam masala powder and cilantro.
