I never seem to get this right…. until this time that is
Ingredients:
| 1 | cup | green moong dal (whole) |
| 1 | small | onion (red) chopped finely |
| 1 | teaspoon | ginger grated |
| 1 | teaspoon | garlic grated |
| 1 | small | ginger whole |
| 3 | chiles (green) sliced horizontally | |
| 1.5 | large | tomatoes (plum) pureed |
| 1 | teaspoon | chili powder |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | turmeric |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | coriander powder |
| 2.5 | teaspoon | canola oil |
| to taste | salt | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | garam masala |
| ghee | ||
| small bunch | cilantro chopped | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cumin seeds |
Directions:
Soak dal in sufficient water for half an hour.
Pressure cook dal with salt, half the red chili powder, turmeric and the small piece of ginger till cooked.
In a pan, heat oil and sauté onions and ginger-garlic paste. Add coriander powder, slit green chilies and tomato puree and sauté till the oil separates.
Add the cooked dal and adjust spices, salt and consistency. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and let it splutter. Add remaining red chili powder to this and pour over the dal. Garnish with garam masala powder and cilantro.
