I usually make this with thigh because its easier to handle. Also, I don’t bother freshly grinding the cumin seeds- we make our cumin powder at home anyway, so I just use that. Tastes almost as good :)

Okra with Yogurt Curry

I have to admit, this recipe is more time consuming than I usually like my meals to be. I used oil instead of ghee when I made this, and tried to used less of it in an effort to be healthy. Unfortunately, that meant that the onions did not cook properly, so I had to dry out the water as much as possible. Thus, my dish turned out to be drier than I was used to having when my mom cooked it growing up. Still really good though!

I use ready made rasam powder I got from a store in Chennai so its as close to authentic, as I’m too lazy to make the powder fresh. But I’m sure the results are drastically different so I’m going to make the powder one of these days!

My mother-in-law recommends cooking about 2 cups of daal at a time and storing it for sambar or rasam if you would like to make it frequently and save time on boiling daal. You can store boiled daal for about 4-5 days in an airtight container.
